For me, this time of year always has that same feeling as New Year. Actually, I think I prefer it. There is none of the new years resolutions and setting goals pressure, and it’s a lovely time to start afresh into something new, without all of the new year noise.
There is a real sense of ‘back to school, back to work’ present at the moment. People are re-engaging after the summer, and finding their routine now that the kids are going back to school. Have you noticed the uptick in everything being suddenly urgent? I have! So here are some of the things I am doing this week to attempt to prioritise what is truly urgent, because if everything is urgent, then nothing really is urgent!
1️⃣ Take the time to identify the true priorities. What really matters here? Things can be important, but not necessarily urgent. So what is urgent, and what is important?
2️⃣ Employ some strategic thinking. Remember to zoom out before you zoom in. What are the big picture items here? Prioritise them, before diving into the tasks.
3️⃣ Delegate what you can. Ask for help. Who can you delegate some tasks to? Thus ensuring that your time is spent focussing on the high impact activities.
💡 How do you approach the urgent v important challenge?
